Submerged

2018

Size: original 18 x 24”

Utensils: pen, colored pencil, sharpie

“Submerged” is my first official self portrait.

There are a number of
underwater themes throughout this drawing, so I felt the title “Submerged” complimented these qualities, while also depicting the idea behind the piece.

This figure is drowning from overthinking, stuck in their own little world. This idea is depicted with the eyes holding an eel & fish, a conch shell/cochlea on the lobe of the ear, all tangled in a crown of thorns & foliage, embellished with a DNA double helix.
